Summer Job Opportunities

We have two open positions at the Hotspot and Squamish Welcome Centre this summer! Plus, we’re always open for new volunteers to join our amazing team at the bookstore.
Digital Divide Project

$20 / hr

35 hrs a week / 8 weeks

The Digital Divide Project (DDP) needs your help! The DDP provides computers and tutoring to people who don’t have their own.

Job Responsibilities: Work with a small team to plan and coordinate the DDP over the summer. This will include weekly tutoring sessions, helping refine lesson plans, volunteer coordination, refurbishing laptops, and project outreach.

An Ideal Job for someone interested in both community services/social work and computers/technology.

Requirements include a willingness to get a criminal record check, being aged 18 to 30, and PR/refugee status or citizenship. Availability to work for 8 weeks starting June 20th.

An Ideal Candidate speaks English as well as another language (such as Punjabi, Arabic, or Spanish) and has a basic understanding of Linux.

Archive Project

$20 / hr

30 hrs a week / 8 weeks

The Squamish Volunteer Centre Society has been around since before 1997. The Hotspot Archive Project is looking for help to look forward and back.

Job Responsibilities: Find and sort documents, photographs, etc. with the goal of creating a historical account and a functional archiving system. Mentorship will be provided, but you’ll also have freedom to determine how best to present the historical data.

An Ideal Job for someone interested in creating multimedia art, recording testimonials, and best practices for data.

Requirements include a willingness to get a criminal record check, being aged 18 to 30, and PR/Refugee status or citizenship. Availability to work for 8 weeks this summer.

An Ideal Candidate has experience conducting research, is familiar with research ethics, and an interest in local history and non-profit management!

Volunteer Admin

Our Community Bookstore and Computer Lab are 100% volunteer run. We’re looking for a volunteer who wants to help out behind the scenes, too.

Volunteer position responsibilities: Help with monthly calendars, creating signs and posters, and facilitating new volunteer on-boarding. Exact responsibilities depend on what you want to do. We appreciate your time, as much or as little as you want to give.

An Ideal Position for someone who loves books and people, and has ideas for fun projects and events.

Requirements include a willingness to get a criminal record check, some admin experience, and patience. All other details are pretty flexible – we try to meet everyone where they are.

An Ideal Candidate will be interested in consensus-based decision-making and considerate of other peoples needs and interests.
